Mainly at the office
Travel limit? Local knowledge needed. Probably living within 10 miles of town.
Mostly outside office hours Estimate of time needed:
1-3 hours / week Generally time is flexible. 3 Trustee meetings per year in evening. 1 - 2 subcommittees per month Ad hoc attendance of daytime and evening activities.
Experienced chair with knowledge of community engagement for one or more of the following; youth, mother and baby groups, senior citizens and the general needs of the citizens of our small town. Leader of a team of eleven trustees.
What will you be doing?
Ideally this trustee will initially support the chair, who instigated the charity ten years ago and who devotes more time than his age would expect. The current chair will take over as youth manager until we find a suitable paid applicant. We need someone who would take over as chair within 3 months (sooner if possible). Although the tasks have recently been spread amongst the other trustees, the chair is still key to solving on the spot problems, networking weekly with people in the town (in order to encourage local funds) and recommending decisions. We have recently appointed an Activities Manger and a Trust Administrator, who support the chair.
What are we looking for?
Strong on community networking.
Good understanding of community work.
Preferably some experience of youth work, but this is not essential.
What difference will you make?
The Chair of Trustees is a key role in our charity. Your appointment would relieve the worry of succession, which we have been trying to deal with for three or four years. An energetic personality would steer volunteers and employees to extend the much needed activities on offer, in particular, to local youth. The centre is a thriving and happy place, which is always on the lookout to deal with the needs of the people in the town. For example, when Covid struck, we immediately used our contacts to provide regular phone calls and daily Zoom meetings to people living alone.
Before you apply
Interviews will be with current Chair and visit to premises to view our activities. If these meetings are favourable to both parties, then an interview with a subcommittee of trustees will follow.
